Where KZN-H and KZN-L Pumps Fit

The high head KZN-H models suit jobs where muddy water has a long way to climb: deep basement and foundation excavations, shafts and tunnels, quarry pits discharging up to a settling lagoon, or any site where the discharge point is far from the pump. The JST-55 and JST-110 KZN-H also have smaller outlets than their standard equivalents, so they run on smaller, lighter hose.

The high flow KZN-L models are for shifting large volumes of silty water over a short lift, such as emptying lagoons, settling ponds and flooded pits, or clearing water and silt from river and culvert works. With 6 and 8-inch outlets, hose size matters: undersized hose throws away the flow you are paying for, as our guide to discharge pipe sizing explains. For either version, work out the duty point first using our guide to pump head and flow rate, and remember that published curves are for water, so thick slurry needs a margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the H and L suffixes mean on JS KZN pumps?

H stands for high head and L for high flow. Both use the same motor ratings as the standard KZN, with a different pump end: an H model trades flow for extra lift, and an L model trades lift for extra flow.

Which sizes come as KZN-H and KZN-L?

The KZN-H is available at 5.5 kW (JST-55), 7.5 kW (JST-75) and 11 kW (JST-110). The KZN-L is available at 15 kW (JST-150) and 22 kW (JST-220). The 3.7 kW JST-37 comes only as a standard KZN.

Will a high head model give me more water on my site?

Only when your total head is high. Above the standard model’s maximum head, only the H version will deliver at all; below it, compare the two curves at your duty point, because the standard model has the higher maximum flow. Not sure of your total head? Call us with the lift and hose length.

Why does the JST-55 KZN-H have a smaller outlet than the JST-55 KZN?

The H version moves less water to a greater height, so it uses a 3-inch outlet where the standard JST-55 KZN has a 4-inch. Use 3-inch hose, or larger on a long run, but never smaller than the outlet.

Can the H and L versions handle the same solids as the standard KZN?

Yes, they share the agitator and high chrome iron wear parts. The JST-55 and JST-75 KZN-H pass solids up to 25 mm, and the JST-110 KZN-H, JST-150 KZN-L and JST-220 KZN-L up to 35 mm. Like the standard KZN, they are slurry pumps for sand, silt and sludge rather than sewage pumps for rag and fibres.

What power supply do they need?

All five are 400v three-phase pumps and need a suitable starter or control panel with motor protection sized to the pump’s full load current.
