GMP EA Bronze Self Priming Salt Water Pumps

The GMP EA Bronze Self-Priming Salt Water Pumps are a purpose-built range of surface-mounted electric pumps designed for use with seawater, brine, and swimming pool circulation. Manufactured by GMP in Italy, the EA bronze series is constructed throughout in bronze, from the pump casing and inlet flange to the impeller itself, providing the corrosion resistance required for continuous contact with saline liquids. A stainless steel shaft and carbon mechanical seal complete the assembly.

All models in this range are self-priming, meaning the pump will draw liquid up the suction pipe without manual pre-filling on each restart. A non-return valve on the inlet body retains water after shutdown, so the pump re-primes automatically at the start of the next cycle. Maximum suction depth is 6 metres. The open impeller design allows the passage of soft solids, making these pumps suitable not only for clean seawater but also for applications where the liquid contains light suspended material. Maximum liquid temperature is 70°C.

High-pressure and high-volume variants are available on request for installations with more demanding duty requirements. If you are unsure which specification suits your application, contact the AES Rewinds team on 01252 515169.

Choosing the Right Model

The EA bronze range uses a suffix system to identify port size and voltage. The first letter indicates outlet diameter: S models have a 2-inch port, T models have a 3-inch port, and the EALE has a 4-inch port. The motor designator M in the model code indicates single-phase 230V; no M designator (or a T prefix before the suffix) indicates three-phase 400V.

For most coastal, marina, and swimming pool applications, the 2-inch single-phase EAS8 (230V) or three-phase EAS9 (400V) will be sufficient. Where higher flow volumes are needed, such as in larger pool circulation systems or industrial seawater transfer, the 3-inch EAT1 (230V) or EAT2 (400V) delivers up to 900 l/min. The 4-inch EALE is a three-phase 400V model rated for 1,650 l/min and is suited to large-volume or high-demand applications.

Where the GMP EA Bronze Pump is Used

The primary application for the EA bronze range is seawater and saline water transfer in marine, coastal, and waterside environments. The bronze construction resists the accelerated corrosion that would rapidly degrade cast iron or standard steel components in contact with salt water. Typical installations include marina wash-down systems, cooling water circuits aboard vessels, coastal irrigation intakes, and aquaculture water transfer where the liquid contains dissolved salts or marine sediment.

Swimming pool circulation is the other main use case. The open impeller tolerates fine debris and suspended particles that would clog a closed-impeller pump, and the non-return valve prevents siphoning between cycles, which is a practical advantage in pool plant rooms where the pump runs on a timer. The 2-inch models are well suited to domestic and small commercial pools; the 3-inch and 4-inch models are appropriate for larger commercial or public pools.

The range is also used in industrial and process applications where the liquid has a mild corrosive or saline character, including desalination pre-treatment, food industry brine transfer, and cooling loops in coastal plant. The silicon carbide seal upgrade, available on request, extends chemical resistance further where the liquid is more aggressive. Frequently Asked Questions

Can these pumps handle actual seawater continuously?

Yes. The pump casing, inlet flange, and impeller are all cast in bronze, which is the standard material for continuous seawater service. The stainless steel shaft resists corrosion from incidental seawater contact. These pumps are specifically designed for this duty, unlike cast iron models that would corrode quickly in saline applications.

What is the maximum suction depth for the EA bronze range?

All models in this range have a maximum suction depth of 6 metres. The non-return valve on the inlet retains water in the suction line after the pump stops, which ensures the pump can re-prime automatically at the next start without manual intervention.

What is the difference between the single-phase and three-phase models?

Single-phase 230V models (EAS8, EAT1) run from a standard UK domestic or commercial single-phase supply. Three-phase 400V models (EAS9, EAT2, EALE) require a three-phase electrical supply, which is common in commercial, industrial, and marine installations. The three-phase models draw lower amperage for the same motor output, which reduces electrical load and can simplify wiring on sites with three-phase available.

Can these pumps handle solids or debris in the water?

Yes, within the limits shown in the specification table. The open impeller design allows solids passage up to 16mm on the 2-inch models, up to 27mm on the 3-inch models, and up to 35mm on the 4-inch EALE. Abrasive solids should be avoided as these would cause accelerated wear on the impeller.

Are high-pressure or high-volume versions available?

Yes. GMP manufactures high-pressure and high-volume variants of the EA bronze pump to order. These are not listed in the standard product grid. Contact AES Rewinds on 01252 515169 to discuss requirements and lead times for these special configurations.

What temperature liquids can these pumps handle?

The maximum liquid temperature for the EA bronze range is 70°C. This makes them suitable for warm seawater recirculation and heated pool systems, as well as process applications where the liquid is elevated above ambient temperature.
