Where a Vacusystem Package Station Fits

A VS 170 is built for small sewage lifting jobs where gravity drainage is not possible. Typical installations include a ground-floor or basement WC and shower room below the level of the sewer, a garden annexe or home office, a converted outbuilding, a utility room, or a small commercial washroom. The station collects the waste in its sealed vessel and pumps it up through a 2-inch rising main to the nearest manhole or soil stack. Choosing between the two models comes down to the length and height of the discharge run. Add the vertical lift to the friction loss in the pipe and fittings, then check that figure against the pump curve; our guide to pump head and flow rate shows how. Short, low runs suit the VS 170-B300, while the VS 170-B400 keeps more flow in reserve for longer or higher discharges.

The VS 170 is a compact single-pump station, so it is not the answer to every job. For a single appliance or sink, the JS Box domestic pumping stations are smaller and simpler. If the waste has to travel a long way through small-bore pipe, a grinder pump such as the JS GS range may suit better, and for a whole house or several properties you need a larger station with more storage and an alarm panel, so call us for advice.

What can a Vacusystem VS 170 pump?

Domestic sewage and waste water from toilets, showers and basins, with soft solids up to 40 mm and a liquid temperature of no more than 40°C. Like any vortex sewage pump, it should not be asked to handle wipes, sanitary products, rag, building debris or large amounts of fat and grease, which can block the pump or its float.

Is a control panel or alarm included?

No. The Biox pump has its own float switch, so the station runs automatically on a 230v supply without a panel. Pentair recommends that the supply is protected by a 30 mA RCD. A high-level alarm is not included, and we recommend adding one wherever a blockage or power cut could cause the vessel to overflow unnoticed.

Can the station be buried in the ground?

Yes. The moulded vessel can stand free in a yard, garage or plant room, or be buried with an inspection cover above it so you can reach the pump. Plan the inlet depth, the vent and the cable route before you dig, and use a qualified installer for the electrical connection.

How do I connect 110 mm soil pipe?

The three inlets are 4-inch (100 mm) knockouts. To join standard 110 mm soil pipe, use the Vacusystem 110 mm to 100 mm adapter. Open only the inlets you need and leave the others sealed.

Can I replace the pump?

Yes. The pump stands free in the vessel and connects to the outlet through a quick release coupling, so it can be lifted out for servicing or replacement. Replacement Pentair Biox sewage pumps are sold separately; fit the same model to keep the station’s performance unchanged.
