JS Box Domestic Pumping Stations
The JS Box domestic pumping station is a compact, ready-made tank and pump for lifting grey water from rooms that sit below the drain. Wash basins, sinks, baths and showers drain into the box by gravity, and a JS Pumps vortex pump lifts the water up to the nearest soil or waste pipe. It suits basement bathrooms, utility rooms, garden rooms and annexes where a gravity fall to the drain is not possible.
There are two sizes, and each is built around a pump from the JS SV sewage vortex family. The JS Box 150 carries the JS-150SV, a light 1¼-inch pump with a plastic body. The JS Box 250 carries the JS-250SV, a 1½-inch pump with a cast iron pump chamber. Both run on a 230v single-phase supply and switch automatically on an AGMA W float switch, so the pump starts as the box fills and stops once it has emptied.
JS Box 150 or JS Box 250?
Both pumps share the same maximum head of 6.5 metres, so the choice comes down to flow, solids and the size of the space. The JS Box 150 moves up to 125 litres per minute, passes soft solids up to 25 mm and is the smaller, lighter unit at 352 x 300 x 400 mm. It is the natural fit for a single basin, a sink or a shower.
The JS Box 250 delivers up to 240 litres per minute and passes soft solids up to 36 mm. Choose it when several appliances can discharge at once, such as a bath and a basin, or when the lift and pipe run are longer, because it holds more flow at working heads. It needs more room at 452 x 400 x 600 mm.

Where a JS Box Pumping Station Fits
A JS Box solves a common problem in houses and small buildings: a new basin, shower or sink in a room that is lower than the drain it needs to reach. Typical jobs include a basement shower room, a utility sink in a cellar, a hand basin in a garden office or a kitchenette in an annexe. Waste water runs into the box, and the pump sends it up and along a discharge pipe to a soil stack or drain, so you avoid digging a deep gravity run.
The JS Box is a grey water unit. It is meant for water from basins, sinks, baths and showers, not toilet waste, so a WC needs a different solution. For toilet waste or a larger sewage collection point, the Vacusystem sewage pump stations take foul water through 4″ inlets.
Size the box against the real lift, not just the headline figures. Maximum head is the height at which flow stops, so a pump rated at 6.5 metres is best kept to short, low lifts. Add the vertical rise to the friction loss in the discharge pipe, then check the flow at that head on the curve; our guide to reading a pump curve shows how. Keep the discharge pipe at least as large as the pump outlet, as explained in our pump discharge pipe size guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I connect to a JS Box?
Grey water appliances: wash basins, kitchen and utility sinks, baths and showers. Each one must be able to drain into the box by gravity, so the box sits at the lowest point of the room or below the floor.
Can a JS Box pump toilet waste?
No. The JS Box is sold for grey water from household appliances, not WC waste. For a toilet, choose a dedicated toilet waste unit, or a sewage pump station if several appliances and a WC need to share one collection point.
Which pump is inside the JS Box?
The JS Box 150 uses the JS-150SV and the JS Box 250 uses the JS-250SV, both vortex pumps from JS Pumps fitted with an AGMA W float switch. A vortex impeller sits back from the inlet and spins the water rather than forcing everything through the blades, so soft solids pass with less risk of blockage. The same pumps are sold on their own in the JS-150SV range and the JS-250SV range; call us if you need to match a replacement.
How high can a JS Box pump water?
Both models reach a maximum head of 6.5 metres, where flow drops to zero. In practice the JS Box 150 gives roughly 100 litres per minute at 2 metres, and the JS Box 250 roughly 100 litres per minute at 4 metres. If your lift is close to the limit, choose the 250 or ask us about a larger pump.
Is there a 110v JS Box?
No. Both JS Box models are 230v single phase for mains power in a house or building. If you need 110v for a construction site, the JS-150SV and JS-250SV pumps are available in 110v as standalone pumps.
