GMP EA Stainless Steel Self-Priming Acidic Pumps

The GMP EA Stainless Steel Self-Priming Acidic Pumps are a range of surface-mounted electric pumps designed for liquids that would rapidly degrade cast iron or standard steel construction. Built with stainless steel throughout (casing, inlet flange, impeller, and shaft), these pumps are suitable for acidic water, dilute acid transfer, sewage, fruit juice, and other fluid foodstuffs where corrosion resistance and hygiene are essential. A silicon carbide mechanical seal is fitted as standard, with an alternative available on request for more aggressive chemistries.

All models are self-priming, with a non-return valve on the inlet body preventing water loss after shutdown. Maximum suction depth is 6 metres. An inspection door on the suction body allows blockages to be cleared quickly without disconnecting the pipework. Maximum liquid temperature is 70°C. These pumps are not suitable for abrasives.

For general guidance on self-priming pump selection and operation, see the AES Rewinds self-priming pumps guide.

Choosing the Right Model

The EA stainless range splits into two port size groups. The EA7G (230V) and EA7E (400V) are 2-inch models with a 1.5kW motor, producing up to 440 l/min at 18m head. These are suitable for light commercial and food industry applications where flow demands are moderate.

The three 3-inch models serve higher-demand applications. The EALT (400V, 4kW) has a lower solids passage of 8mm and is better suited to clean acidic liquids or juice processing. The EALR (400V, 5.5kW) and EALS (400V, 7.5kW) both pass solids up to 24mm and are appropriate for sewage, industrial effluent, and applications where the liquid carries suspended matter. Note that the EALR and EALS are large, heavy pumps (96kg and 98.5kg respectively) requiring secure installation on a solid base.

Where the GMP EA Stainless Steel Pump is Used

The primary market for this range is applications where the liquid would corrode a cast iron pump within a short operating life. Acidic water, dilute acids, and process effluent with a low pH are the most common duty. In water treatment and industrial settings, these pumps are used for transferring pH-adjusted effluent, dosing return lines, and moving process water that contains dissolved chemicals or food-grade acids.

The food and drink industry is a key sector. Stainless steel construction meets the hygiene and corrosion requirements for pumping fruit juice, soft drink concentrates, whey, and similar fluid foodstuffs. The inspection door on the suction body allows rapid cleaning or blockage clearance without pipe disconnection, which reduces downtime in production environments. The EALT’s smaller solids passage makes it the preferred choice for clean, viscous food liquids; the EALR and EALS are more appropriate where the liquid contains soft suspended material.

Sewage and grey water applications are also well served, particularly where the liquid is mildly corrosive or where cast iron construction has proved unsuitable in previous installations. The EALR and EALS models pass solids up to 24mm, making them capable of handling light sewage with suspended solids. Frequently Asked Questions

What concentration of acid can these pumps handle?

The EA stainless range is designed for dilute acids and acidic water rather than concentrated acid transfer. The stainless steel construction offers good resistance to many dilute acid solutions, but compatibility depends on acid type and concentration. For concentrated acids or unusual chemical compositions, contact AES Rewinds on 01252 515169 to discuss whether the standard silicon carbide seal or an alternative is appropriate.

What is the difference between the EALT and the EALR?

Both are 3-inch, 400V pumps, but they serve different duties. The EALT (4kW) passes solids up to 8mm only, making it better suited to clean or lightly contaminated liquids such as food products or filtered process water. It also achieves a higher head of 35m. The EALR (5.5kW) passes solids up to 24mm and delivers a higher flow rate of 1,400 l/min, making it more appropriate for sewage, wastewater, or liquids with suspended particulates.

Are these pumps suitable for food production environments?

The stainless steel construction and silicon carbide seal make these pumps appropriate for food and drink processing applications involving fluid foodstuffs. The inspection door on the suction body allows cleaning access. For regulated food production environments, always verify the specific regulatory requirements for your process with your site hygiene and compliance team.

Do the 3-inch models require three-phase power?

Yes. All three 3-inch models in this range (EALT, EALR, EALS) are 400V three-phase. The two 2-inch models are available in both single-phase 230V (EA7G) and three-phase 400V (EA7E), so single-phase installations are limited to the 2-inch port size and 1.5kW output.

What maintenance access is provided?

All models in this range have an inspection door on the suction body. This allows the pump’s internals to be inspected and any soft blockage cleared without removing the pump from the pipework. This is a practical advantage in continuous process and food production applications where downtime is costly.
