JS JST SV Sewage Vortex Submersible Pumps 400v
The JST SV range is a three-phase submersible sewage vortex pump series built for commercial and industrial wastewater applications that a domestic pump simply cannot handle. Each model uses a cast iron vortex impeller, which creates a swirling flow pattern that lets soft solids pass through the pump body rather than through the impeller itself. This keeps blockages to a minimum when pumping sewage effluent, viscous liquids, or drainage water carrying suspended debris.
Nine models cover flow rates from 250 l/min up to 3,175 l/min, with heads ranging from 8m to 30m depending on the specific model. All units in the range are supplied with twin mechanical seals in carbon ceramic and silicon carbide, running in a lubricated chamber for extended service life, along with 10 metres of power cable as standard. The construction is cast iron throughout, with a stainless steel shaft and motor casing to withstand rough handling and abrasive water.
These pumps suit facilities managers and contractors specifying equipment for commercial kitchens, hotel and leisure wastewater, remote pumping stations for housing developments, agricultural effluent, and any application where raw sewage or dirty water needs to move reliably against gravity.
Choosing the right JST SV model
The model number after “JST” refers to the motor power in kW multiplied by 10, so a JST-4 SV runs a 0.4kW motor and a JST-75 SV runs a 7.5kW motor. Larger numbers mean higher flow rates and, in most cases, greater head capacity, though this isn’t a straight line: the JST-22 SV is offered in both 2-pole and 4-pole versions, and these behave quite differently.
The 2-pole JST-22 SV spins faster and is tuned for higher head at a moderate flow rate (1,000 l/min at up to 20m head), while the 4-pole version prioritises volume over pressure (1,000 l/min+ but limited to 10m head). If your installation involves a long pipe run or lifting the discharge to a higher point, the 2-pole model is the better fit. If you’re simply moving a high volume of water over a short vertical distance, the 4-pole model is more efficient to run.
The JST-37 SV is also split into two variants by solids handling capability: an 80mm version for standard sewage and drainage duty, and a 57mm high-head version for applications needing greater lift. All outlet sizes from 2″ through to 4″ are covered across the range, so the right choice depends on matching your pipework, expected flow, and required head against the table below.
| Model | Voltage | Outlet | Max Flow (l/min) | Max Head (m) | Motor (kW) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JST-4 SV | 400v | 2″ | 250 | 8.5 | 0.4 |

Where to Use JST SV Pumps
The JST SV range is designed for installations where sewage or heavily contaminated water needs to be moved reliably, day in, day out, without frequent intervention. Typical applications include remote pumping stations serving housing developments, hotel and restaurant wastewater management, agricultural effluent handling, and commercial premises where drainage runs below the level of the main sewer.
Because the vortex impeller keeps solids clear of the moving parts, these pumps also suit sites with variable waste content, such as food service kitchens or facilities where wet wipes, sanitary waste, or other soft solids commonly end up in the drainage line. For a fuller explanation of how the vortex mechanism works and why it matters for sewage duty specifically, see our guide on how a sewage pump works.
Smaller models such as the JST-4 SV and JST-8 SV are well suited to a standard sump pit serving a single building or small development, while the mid-range JST-15 SV through JST-37 SV models cover most commercial pumping station duties. The JST-55 SV and JST-75 SV are aimed at larger sites with higher wastewater volumes, such as multi-unit developments or industrial premises. If you’re still working out which category of pump your site needs, our guide on how to choose a sewage pump covers flow rate and head calculations in more detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 2-pole and 4-pole JST-22 SV?
The 2-pole version runs at higher motor speed and delivers up to 18m head at 1,000 l/min, making it suited to installations with a longer pipe run or greater lift. The 4-pole version runs slower but moves more water (up to 1,300 l/min), with head capped at 8m, so it’s better suited to high-volume, low-lift applications.
What size solids can the JST SV range handle?
Solids handling varies by model. The JST-4 SV through JST-15 SV handle up to 6mm, while the larger JST-22 SV through JST-75 SV models handle up to 10mm, giving you flexibility depending on the waste content at your site.
Do these pumps come with a float switch?
The JST SV range as listed is supplied without a float switch. If you need automatic operation, a compatible float switch or level control should be added separately. Get in touch with our team and we can advise on the right control setup for your installation.
Can the JST SV range handle raw sewage, or is it for dirty water only?
The vortex impeller design is specifically intended for raw sewage, viscous liquids, and soft solids, not just dirty water. This is what distinguishes it from a standard dirty water pump. If you’re unsure which category your application falls into, our guide on what is a dirty water pump explains the distinction.
What’s the difference between the two JST-37 SV variants?
The 80mm version is the standard model, built for general sewage and drainage duty with reliable solids handling. The 57mm version is a high-head specialist, trading some solids handling capacity for greater head (up to 23m against the standard model’s 12m), useful where the pump needs to lift wastewater a significant vertical distance.
Do I need three-phase power for this range?
Yes. The JST SV range is built for 400v three-phase supply. If your site only has single-phase power available, our JS SV single-phase sewage pump range covers equivalent models for 230v installations.
If you’re not sure which JST SV model is right for your site, our team can help you work through flow rate, head, and solids handling requirements before you order. Browse the full sewage and waste water pump range for other options, or call us on 01252 515169 to talk through your specification.
