Pentair Versailles Pond Fountain Pumps

The Pentair Versailles range (sold for many years under the Nocchi name) is a family of stainless steel submersible fountain pumps built for ornamental ponds, fountains, water features and cascades. Three single-phase 230v models cover small garden features through to larger displays in parks, hotel grounds and commercial landscaping, with up to 11 metres of head from the largest pump.

The pump body, base, intake strainer and impeller are all AISI 304 stainless steel, with an AISI 416 stainless shaft fitted with a ceramic sleeve at the wear points. The dry motor is IP68 rated with class F insulation, built-in thermal protection and a capacitor, and is designed for continuous running while submerged, down to a maximum depth of 7 metres. Each pump has a 1¼” outlet, a plastic reducer to 1″ female for fitting a fountain head, and 10 metres of H07RN-F power cable.

Choosing the right Versailles fountain pump

The numbers in each model name are a rough guide to performance: the first is the nominal flow in litres per minute and the second the nominal head in metres. Pentair’s published curves come out slightly lower, so use the table below when you size a pump.

The 160/8 is the compact model, 425 mm long, for smaller ponds, single jets and modest waterfalls. The 250/10 and 350/12 share a longer 620 mm body; choose the 250/10 for a taller jet or a bigger cascade, and the 350/12 where you need the most height or volume, such as a large multi-tier fountain head or water lifted a long way to the top of a feature.

Clean water only. The hydraulic passes particles up to 1.5 mm. If your fountain head has smaller nozzles, fit the optional sponge filter inside the pump. Maximum water temperature is 40°C.

Flow and head are read from Pentair’s published performance curves; the 350/12 still gives about 1 metre of head at 300 l/min, the end of the published curve. All models run on 230v single-phase. Click through to any model for full specifications.

Where to Use Versailles Fountain Pumps

Pentair designed the Versailles range for fountains, water features and cascades. Typical installations include ornamental ponds and lakes in private gardens, fountains in public squares and parks, hotel and office landscaping, garden centre displays and recirculating waterfalls, where the pump sits in the lower pool and sends water back up to the top of the feature.

Size the pump on the head it has to work against, not just the jet height you want. Every metre of lift to the top of a cascade, and every metre of pipe between pump and outlet, uses up some of the pump’s head and reduces the flow you see at the feature. Our guides to pump head and flow rate and reading a pump curve show how to match a duty point to the right model.

These are clean water pumps. In a natural pond, stand the pump on a firm, clean base clear of silt and leaves rather than on the bottom, and fit the sponge filter if your fountain nozzles are finer than 1.5 mm. For dirty water, sludge or emptying a pond, use a drainage pump instead, such as the Pentair Drenox stainless steel drainage pumps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which fountain heads work with the Versailles pumps?

Pentair offers three optional heads: the Vulcano, with adjustable jets on three levels; the Gaiser, a single adjustable foaming jet; and the Campana, an adjustable bell-shaped sheet of water. Each pump comes with a reducer to 1″ female for fitting a head. Fountain heads and filters are not included with the pump, so call us to check availability.

How big a display will each model produce?

Pentair’s published figures for the Vulcano head are about 1.8 m wide and 3.6 m high on the 160/8, 2.0 m by 4.2 m on the 250/10 and 2.0 m by 4.8 m on the 350/12. The Gaiser jet reaches roughly 1.1 m, 1.8 m and 2.3 m high on the three models, and the Campana bell is about 0.45 m high and 0.9 m to 1.0 m across. Pipework between pump and head will reduce these figures.

Do I need the sponge filter?

The pump passes particles up to 1.5 mm. If your fountain head or nozzles have openings smaller than that, fit the sponge filter inside the pump to stop them blocking. The filter comes in two sizes: one for the 160/8 and one shared by the 250/10 and 350/12.

How deep can the pump be submerged?

Down to 7 metres. The motor is IP68 rated and designed to run continuously while submerged, and the 10 metres of cable gives you room to reach a weatherproof supply point at the edge of the pond.

Can I run a Versailles pump in a fish pond?

The pumps are specified for clean water without solid particles, up to 40°C. In a stocked pond, keep the pump off the bottom and away from silt, and check the intake regularly so leaves and debris do not build up around the strainer.

What power supply do they need?

All three are single-phase 220 to 240v pumps with built-in thermal protection, drawing 2.2 A, 4.5 A and 5.1 A respectively. Any outdoor pump supply should be installed by a qualified electrician and protected by an RCD.
